In My Body

Description / Development History

In My Body is a concept musical about finding home in our bodies. Through songs, scenes, monologues, and movement, In My Body challenges us to focus on body acceptance in a culture obsessed with body image. Created in collaboration with writers Lis Kalogris, Kate Cipriano, and Melissa Hays.

In My Body premiered in 2016 at The Prince Theatre in Philadelphia. Directed by Kathryn MacMillan, musical direction by Chris Burcheri, starring Donnie Hammond, Michael Indeglio, Austin Ku, April Woodall and Katie Zaffrann, produced by Flying Bulldog Productions.

In My Body took its seeds from a non-profit collaborative multi-arts project conceived by Lis Kalogris in Philadelphia in 2010. The project included an exhibition featuring Leah Macdonald’s encaustic photos of nude women, a body image workshop and roundtable, and two performances (directed by Melanie Stewart). A staged reading was held at Christ Church Neighborhood House in Philadelphia in January 2014 (directed by Bill Fennelly). Excerpts from the show were performed at the 2014 National Undergraduate Conference on Body Image at Cabrini College in October 2014. In May 2015 a 5 day workshop was held at The Arden Theater’s Hamilton Arts Annex (directed by KC MacMillan).
